Dear Mason: 8 month edition

Dear Mason,
So with traveling and coming home to immediately jump back into work I'm a little late at finishing up your post. But I did start it on time!
Happy 8 months my precious baby boy! This month we discovered how difficult it is becoming to get a monthly picture of you. I tried once by myself to get your pictures and it was a total fail!

As the holidays are getting closer momma is reminded of last year when we were anxiously preparing for your arrival.

You are measuring 26.75 inches long (11th percentile) and weighing in at 20 pounds (67th percentile). You are wearing a combination of 6 month and 9 month clothes. The 9 month clothes are still a little bit but some of the 6 month clothes are starting to become a little snug. Your little 9 month sleepers are getting a little snug around your tummy but are still a little too long for you. You are still wearing size 3 diapers.

Last month we dabbled a little bit with the baby led weaning but I don't think you were quite interested in food yet. The past couple of weeks you have really taken off with eating. You pretty much eat anything that we feed you. We haven't introduced you to any sweets yet though. Our plan is to give you your first sweet treat on Christmas morning when we have our traditional monkey bread. Your favorites are chicken, peanut butter, sweet potatoes, stove top dressing, ham, rolls, turkey, blueberries & pear. You still do not like eggs and bananas. You have become more adventurous with food on our trip to Georgia. It was really great because we didn't have to pack anything, we were just able to feed you a little bit of what we ate. We have figured out this month that your not liking baby food is sheerly a texture thing. For instance, you like sweet potatoes but do not like them if they are pureed.

You are still on reflux medicine. We are praying you will grow out of it, but you just aren't quite there yet.

I told daddy that we keep thinking you are teething & I write it in your blog every month that you are getting teeth yet you still have no teeth. You are still showing signs of teeth to us, very drooly, biting down hard on things, have to have stuff in your mouth constantly. But we don't see or feel anything in that little mouth of yours.

This month you finally mastered crawling. One day you were playing in the wrapping paper & I looked up and you were crawling after an Amazon box that momma was trying to wrap. Since you began crawling you are now ALL over the place.

You're also trying very hard to pull up. You can't quite pull up on things that are taller than you yet. But you can push up to standing from things that are lower than you like your daddy when he is laying down or the box of blocks or wipes.

You got your first cold this month. It was definitely no fun. Being the first time parents we are we took you to the dr 2 times to make sure you were ok only to be told yep it's just a cold. Luckily you really took it in stride. There was only one day you seemed lethargic and just wanted to be held. Other than that you were all smiles. (these 2 pictures were literally the same day. You went downhill fast on the day you didn't feel good!)

Your sleep regression from last month seems to be better this month for the most part. There are still nights that you may wake up once or twice but are pretty good about going right back to sleep. You even did really great sleeping on the first half of our trip to Georgia. The second half, well you preferred sleeping with/on mommy, daddy or your Oggie.
You got several new toys this month that you love! We gave you 2 of your Christmas presents early. When mommy was sick you and daddy had a long weekend together and built a sensory board & you were wanting to try to pull up so we gave you your sensory table early too.

You love the steering wheel & gear shift on the table. It cracks us up because you will pull up to your knees and put your hand on the horn and just lay on the horn. Your daddy jokes with you that that's how you get mom to get in the car. You also really love all of the things on your sensory board. Some other favorites this month: toy food & wooden blocks. You seriously could play with just your wooden blocks all day! You favorite books are: Red Truck, Mighty Dads, That's Not My Truck & Dear Zoo. You are also in love with all things cars or trucks. You are fascinated any time daddy turns on a truck show or you are outside and see cars driving by.

You are becoming more and more independent every day. While you still have your days where you don't want us out of your sight, most days you are very happy for us to just sit you on the floor and let you explore and play. You've also taken to wanting to feed yourself. You're growing up too fast baby boy!! Oggie says that you remind her so much of how your daddy was.

You still don't really care to have your paci. The only time you really want it is after we give you reflux medicine or when we are in the car. Other than that you don't care for it. At night we give it to you after your bottle but when we check you out on the monitor you spit it out very quickly after we walk out of the room.

You are still saying mama & dada this month and you have also added baba. Not that you know what any of those words mean. You will choose one of them though and stick with only saying that one for several days.

Exciting things this month:

*You celebrated your first Halloween as Popeye
*You went to the church nursery for the first time

*You helped mommy vote
*You got to see your first Christmas tree
*You got some extra loving from your great grandparents
*You got into some shenanigans with your cousins

*You went on your first (very long) road trip

* You visited Georgia for the first time & met daddy's family and friends (blog post to come)
 *You celebrated your first Thanksgiving

I know that every month I say just how much we love you. I can honestly say that every single month we just love you more and more! You seriously light up our life and add so much joy and happiness to our lives every single day with that precious contagious smile and laugh of yours! I can't wait to see what fun things you do next!

Love,
Mommy & Daddy
