This
year for your birthday it was very interesting. Our world was met with
the coronavirus & we were quarantined at home. We had planned a
whole Lion Guard jungle theme party. While we didn't get to have a big
celebration with all of your friends, we still celebrated as a family
& tried to make the entire day a special day for you. When you were
opening your presents you asked "but where are all of my friends?" My
heart shattered into a million pieces, but beyond that singular moment,
you didn't seem to care. This was a big year for birthday gifts for you.
We got you a big boy bicycle and you are doing such a good job riding
it.
You
are still small but mighty my sweet one. You're weighing in at 36
pounds (46th percentile) and standing 38 inches tall (6th percentile).
We bought you some 4T clothes but honestly, you're still in 3T pants,
shirts & 4T pajamas. Your shoe size has not changed since the fall
of 2018, size 8. We have switched over to size 9, but you still wear
some of your favorite size 8 shoes.
You've
had a few first appointments this month. Your first eye dr. appointment
followed by your first glasses and your first dentist appointment. You
really impressed me with how well you did with those new situations.
You
have always been the one that takes a little longer to fall asleep, you
need someone to sing or lay with you, it's almost like you love this
life so much you don't want to go to sleep and miss out on a single
thing. But once you are asleep you are out like a light. This year we
seemed to have figured out what you need to make bedtime go smoothly.
You
have completely phased out of naps. I'm a little sad, but your body
does not need to nap. There are occasional days where you are grouchy
and in need of a nap, but we have found if you do actually nap you are
up until 11pm. Therefore, we have changed your bedtime to happen an hour
earlier, 7:00. We have noticed when we put you to bed at 7:00 it is the
perfect time for you & you fall straight to sleep. However, if we
put you to bed at 7:30 we seemed to have missed the window and you take
quite a while to fall asleep.
You're
still a pretty picky eater. But I think you most definitely just get
this from Mama. You will branch out and lick or try things but really
you like to stick to what you know. However, I am very impressed with
how well you try things now. Your favorites are: Peanut butter
sandwiches, apples, oranges, steak, burgers, chips, breakfast biscuits,
granola bars. Really you haven't met a red meat or carb that you don't
like. Veggies well....you'll get there. You do like the broccoli leaves.
but in moderation. You're also just not much of an eater. Most of the
time you skip breakfast. It's always offered but a rare occasion when
you actually eat it. If you eat a big lunch you will have a small snack
and just pick at dinner. If you pick at lunch you will eat a snack and
big dinner. So really you stick to about 1 big meal a day.
You
LOVE LOVE LOVE to talk. In fact from the moment you wake up until you
fall asleep you are generally talking to someone or something, even if
its just yourself. If it isn't talking it is making noises or singing.
You and Alexa play the quiet game quite often.
You
are SMART son! You impress us often. You have a serious love for
learning real life facts. At the library or at home you have no interest
for reading fiction books. You only want to read nonfiction books about
animals, vehicles or the world around you. You prefer shows that are
about real actual life things like national geographic or truck shows
with Daddy. And you seem to soak up any single thing that you ever hear.
The other day you had a conversation with Daddy that went like this:
"Daddy is that a female mosquito or a male mosquito?"
Daddy
told you he didn't know to which you then said: "I think it is a female
because males eat nectar and don't bite but females bite." We of course
had to google it but I'll be darned if you weren't right. You soak up
every single little thing that you learn and are eager to share it with
other people. Currently your favorite things to learn about are ocean
life & animals.
You
have always been extremely inquisitive and that has not changed as you
have grown. You love to watch the things around you and figure out how
they work or how to make them work better.
You
are very tender hearted. Rarely do we have to spank or send you to
timeout. Generally we have to let know you the choice was not acceptable
or say your name sternly. This normally breaks your heart immediately
and you are brought to tears making sure we still love you. You are a
pleaser, you never want to disappoint and you want everyone to be proud
of you and happy. You will definitely rat yourself out if you have done
wrong and we didn't notice. You get all of this from your Mama.
You
are still just the absolute best big brother I have ever seen. Sure,
there are times when Liam frustrates you or takes a toy that you were
playing with, but overall you are the sweetest brother. You absolutely
spoil him to pieces. If you have a toy he wants and you can tell he is
heartbroken about it you will either find him another toy he loves or
you decide that you having the toy isn't as important as his happiness.
If he is sad you try desperately to find out what it is he needs and
aren't afraid to let us know if you feel we aren't responding quickly
enough to him. You love to try to comfort him by singing special songs
to him or make him laugh. I hope one day you are able to see through our
eyes how much Liam loves, you, admires you and strives to be just
like you. You live to make him laugh and be his best friend. I think
this is the singular reason that Daddy and I are happy with just the 2
of you right now. Your bond is just incredible and I hope you will
always be the best of friends.
You
are still a MAMA'S boy! You love your Daddy fiercely but you have a
strong loyalty to Mama. If you think anyone remotely hurt my feelings or
hasn't treated me the way you think they should you are not afraid to
let them know you don't appreciate it. You are a snuggler and any time
you are tired or sad or even excited you come to me and as for "mama
nuggles." You will not go to bed easily if I am away & insist on
talking to me before you can fall asleep. This means any time Daddy
& I go out or I go out with friends I have to have a quick facetime
so you can fall asleep. You and I share a very special bond & I love
& treasure it more than you will ever know.
While
you're a Mama's boy there are special things that you and Daddy share
together. You boys share a huge love of the outdoors. This fall you guys
hunted together so often!! You would be so sad if Daddy went without
you and Daddy would feel so guilty leaving you behind that he didn't
enjoy the times that he did go. You both have really enjoyed fishing and
camping together too. Those are all things you are happy to let mom
know she is not invited to. You also have a very fierce love for
everything construction. You guys really have a fun time learning about
construction vehicles and going to watch job sites together. When you
grow up you insist that you are going to work with Daddy at Hilti, you
also express often that you will not be going to school you're just
going straight to work with Daddy at Hilti.
Speaking
of school, I am in disbelief that you are starting Pre-K in the fall.
It is one of those things I know you are far more ready for than I am.
You are incredibly social and loved Vacation Bible School last summer,
love Bible study days, Sunday School and playdates. You are no longer
hesitant for us to leave you at classes. Even at MOPS this year you had
no fear. If I ever doubt your readiness I just watch you in public. You
have a strong desire to play with others your age and make new friends.
Mason
Porter, if there was one thing I could say about you it is that you
have the biggest heart of any child I have ever met. You love FIERCELY
and for those you love you will not ever let any injustice happen to
them. You are friendly to everyone that you meet and if you see anyone
who is sad or upset you are very bothered by it. You have a unique way
of seeing the good in everyone. You are always so excited to meet new
friends, see old friends, let people know they are loved and make people
laugh. You can tell when someone needs a laugh, when someone just needs
a hug or you randomly like to come up and give me a kiss on the
forehead saying "you know what you need a forehead kiss" because you
know that's my favorite kind of kiss. With every passing year I see your
pure heart grow even more & I hope you are always like that.
Every
year I think, man this has been the most fun year yet & here we are
again, I feel the same way, I thank God every single day that he
trusted us to be your parents, that he blessed us with you. You are
amazing, kind, sweet, adventurous, silly, funny, snuggly, kind hearted,
full of energy, full of joy, brilliant, handsome and more than I could
have ever dreamed of when I dreamed of my future children. You love
deeply, you laugh loudly, you dream big, you love Jesus & you strive
to make everyone feel welcome. You are a blessing every single day of
our lives. And every single day I love you more than I ever knew I could
love a human being!
