Dear Liam: 2 month edition

Liam,
I cannot believe that we have already had you in our lives for 2 months now!! Time has just flown by too fast. Since the day you arrived you have just fit seamlessly into our life.
You are weighing in at 12.1 ounces (41st percentile) and are 23.25 inches tall (56 percentile) and your head circumference is 38.25 (19th percentile). I think you are actually a little taller than the doctor measurements.  You are wearing 3 month clothes & size 1 diapers. We measured you at home and got 24 inches and you seem to be outgrowing your sleepers length wise a little faster than your brother did.

You are nursing so we don't always know the amount that you are taking but during the day if you need a bottle you will drink between 3-4 ounces. We give you a bottle at night before bed and you will drink between 5-6 ounces. You have quite the dairy intolerance. Brother had one as well but I was still able to sneak a few dairy items in. With you I cannot sneak any dairy in period. I ate 2 lunchable crackers one day that had milk in them and it upset your little tummy so bad. Mama can have coffee and tomato products which I couldn't have with brother so it's an even trade. I may actually prefer it this way because I love some coffee! We had to increase your reflux medicine this month from 1ml to 1.3 ml but are still able to manage it on Zantac.

You have slept through the night a handful of times, maybe 4 or 5. It's not been anything consistent but we know you are capable and will when you are ready. Your nights aren't super consistent. Some nights you only wake up once and some nights you may wake up twice. For the most part if it's twice it will be about 2ish & 4:30ish. If it's only once it will be 4:30ish. You do pretty good putting yourself to sleep but still like to be held to sleep occasionally. You absolutely hate being swaddled when we swaddle you you grunt and kick and fuss but I know you need to be to settle your startle reflexes. We are currently exploring other options than a swaddle. If we could you would be a tummy sleeper. Truth be told since I'm up and around you during the day you take all of your naps on your tummy. I was afraid that this would bother you having to be swaddled and on your back but so far it hasn't backfired on us.
Speaking of sleeping on your tummy. You have rolled over about 4 or 5 times on us! I thought it was a fluke but then one day you had rolled over in your crib during nap you were still tired so I put you down on the rug to keep sleeping and when I came in the room again you were back on your back. You aren't doing it consistently but you've definitely been doing it here and there.
You don't seem to care much for your pacifier which is new to us. Mason LOVED his paci all day every day! You will take it whenever your ready to go to sleep but for the most part you seem to prefer your thumb. This worries me a little bit because Mama was a thumb sucker, a stubborn one at that & I know all to well that you can't take away a thumb. But you are determined little one so I don't think there is any avoiding it. I think this also may be why you don't care for the swaddle.
I only thought Mason was a Mama's boy.....little man you are the definition of Mama's boy. You really don't want anyone else but your Mama. You want Mama to do all feedings, all comforting, all everything. Seeing how quickly Mason went from Mam's boy to Daddy's boy I'm just relishing this. When you are tired or fussy your favorite thing is to nestle your face deep into my neck. Mason liked to do the same thing. I love it!

We are starting to see your little personality more and more. You are seriously the happiest most chill little baby. Our family comments often how they've never really heard you cry & you don't generally cry unless you are hungry, tired, or Mama has eaten something I shouldn't. You started smiling very early on (before a month) and truly haven't stopped. You smile most at Daddy but love to smile at Mama & Mason too. You've tried to laugh one day at Daddy but haven't quite gotten it yet.

You resemble Daddy so much more than Mason ever did. Mason is definitely all Mama & I think buddy you are going to be all Daddy. I took this picture for your 2 month pictures and laughed at how much it looked like I just cut out Daddy's face and put it on your body.

One thing I can't stress enough is how much you big brother LOVES and adores you, Liam. You are hands down the best part of his day. As soon as he wakes up in the morning the first thing he asks for is where "weeum"  is. He loves to hold, hug & kiss you. If you're upset he wants to comfort you. He will find you paci and put it in your mouth gently holding it until you take it. One night you were over tired and crying and you could tell he was nervous but he went over to you with a book and in a meek little voice kept saying "it's ok brother look it's Mighty Dads. Look at this picture brother. It's ok, don't cry." I can actually trust him if I need to get something done to watch over you. He also is so good at bringing me anything you might need. I was nervous for how he would take to a new baby but you came in and made his world a better & happier place from the second he met you. You truly are his favorite thing in this world.
We love you so much, Liam Hayes. You are fun loving, easy going, happy and the perfect addition to our family. I cannot wait to watch you continue to grow and your relationship with your brother continue to grow.

Dear Liam: 1 month

Dear Liam,
1 month with you seemed to absolutely fly by!! While your entry into this world was a dramatic one, you are one of the most chill babies! I was afraid with our delivery you were going to be much more high maintenance than your brother but you've proved us wrong. You are a pretty easy baby so far. Generally you cry if you: are hungry, wake up from a nap & want us to come get you or want to go to sleep. Other than that if you are awake you just like to look around and take it all in. I will say, when you do cry though you definitely have some volume to your little cry. It definitely jolts me awake like nothing ever has!

You're weighing in at 9lbs 15.5 ounces (53rd percentile) and 21.75 inches (59.6 percentile). You seem to be growing faster than your brother did. This week we had to put away newborn sleepers because your little legs were about to bust through the end of them. You are currently wearing 3 month sleepers & 0-3 month clothes. Lets be honest, you're mostly just in sleepers because you and I both seem to prefer them. You are also still in newborn diapers but you are pretty close to transitioning out of them.

We learned a lot of newborn lessons in the sleep department with Mason that we have chosen not to repeat with you. First, we have made a schedule for you & it seems to have helped you tremendously because we have yet to confuse our days and nights. You will eat every 2-3 hours, have some awake time for 30-45 minutes and then take a nap. Second, we haven't even touched the rock and play. You slept for about 3 weeks in a bassinet in our room at night and in your crib in your room for naps. At about 3 weeks we transitioned you into your room because boy you are a LOUD sleeper and we both felt that we were trying to soothe you when you didn't need it. We want you to be able to self soothe because that was one of the best things we ever taught your brother. That is the third thing we took away from Mason. From day 1 we have put you down awake & allowed you to put yourself to sleep. This hasn't meant you've cried yourself to sleep, normally you just lay there and fall right to sleep. There are the occasional times we have to go in there and soothe you a little and get you comfortable. You seem to hate to be swaddled which is new to us and something we are playing with. I actually think that you prefer to sleep on your stomach which I so wish we could do.

You are drinking Mama's milk & seem pretty content in doing so. Nursing hasn't been as challenging or frustrating as it was before. It seems to just come easier. However, there have been some hiccups. You do have some reflux but it doesn't seem to be near as bad as Mason's was. Yours seems to be easily controlled by a little zantac. You also have a pretty bad dairy intolerance just like your brother. This was something that we were warned about so not a surprise, however, I have to be extremely strict making sure that absolutely nothing contains a trace of dairy or it seems to upset your stomach. You have also struggled with some bad gas. I think this is due to some residual dairy that is still in my milk because who knew peanut butter crackers had dairy! This first month you and I have also battled with thrush. This is something I knew nothing about but we are on our second round of treatment for this. I am praying that this round will clear it up for us.  You are also a VERY LAZY eater!! We have to get you completely naked just to get you to make it through a feeding.

You're not too sold on a paci like your brother was. You're actually kind of preferring your thumb if you able to get it to your mouth. We are trying to detour you from that and give you a paci instead. Honestly, you really don't care to have either unless you are ready to sleep which we are completely fine with.
You are a HAPPY baby!! Our pediatrician is even surprised at how early you have started smiling but boy you LOVE to smile at us all the time.

You and Mason are already forming a pretty special bond. I hope you know that this boy has loved you with his entire heart before he even met you. He wants to be in every single part of your day.

You truly are a very easy and chill baby. You were exactly what we didn't know our little family needed. We love you so much & cannot wait to watch you continue to grow!
Love,
Mommy
